Phlox Divaricata 'Eco Texas Purple'
Woodland phlox, native to eastern north america.
This rarely available selection was introduced by the great plantsman Don Jacobs who, later in life, ran a mail order nursery in North America from Eco Gardens, hence the prefix on many of his plants. This form sports attractive five petalled pinwheel like violet purple flowers with a red violet eye, atop 1' tall stems, beginning in late April to early May. This is a color break from the normal P. divaricata, which is more often a fragrant sky blue. Once the flowers fade, the flat evergreen foliage makes a nice mat that will remain for the rest of the season. Despite it's name the woodland phlox makes a much more attractive and floriferous clump when grown in a bit more sun, particularly in northern England.
