Ficaria verna

Cultivated forms of our native lesser celandine, which brighten up the woodland floor and can be seen along path edges in early spring. The cultivated forms are less invasive and come in a wide range of leaf patterns and colour forms.

All thrive in moist soils, but many of the cultivated forms will take drier conditions. Spring sunshine opens the flowers before the woodland canopy develops. However they are happy in sun or shade .
